Part 1 of my “Reclaim Your Health’ series is DETOX.
Our metabolism changes as we age, and our body becomes less effective in breaking down what we eat and gets stuck in our digestive tract. Over the years all those toxins accumulate in colon weakening our immune system. Detoxification is a natural process where the human body gets rid of toxins, converting compounds that are not soluble in water into soluble to be eliminated through urine, sweat, bile or feces. Detoxifying the body can benefit everyone, especially those of us with constipation, indigestion, migraines, fatigue, abdominal fat & acne among other things.
Before you start a weight loss program or if you have reached a weight loss plateau, you should really consider a natural detox to reset your body. Whether you get one of our Fuxion detox products or go to produce store to create one of your own detox juices, please make a commitment to your body now like the responsibility you take in caring for your car with annual tune ups and oil changes, and start cleansing and detoxing your body from within!
More info on detox to follow but what is a weight loss plateau? A weight loss plateau is when your weight stops changing. Being stuck at a weight loss plateau eventually happens to everyone who tries to lose weight.
“Management of Weight Loss Plateau”
by Gurpreet Sarwan; Anis Rehman.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35015425/
Weight loss can be accomplished through various strategies, ultimately coming down to a net caloric deficit. Frequently people who are new to exercising and/or dieting experience relatively rapid weight loss in the initial few weeks of starting. However, as your body adjusts, people frequently experience a weight loss plateau that can be frustrating to overcome. In addition, the psychology of seeing a rapid reduction of weight initially and then seemingly remaining stagnant despite efforts to restrict caloric intake can be very frustrating.
Studies comparing different diets have shown that a similar degree of weight loss can be achieved in an 8 to 12 week period, as long as a caloric deficit is achieved. However, when looking at individuals in the longer-term, 24-weeks and beyond, only about 10 to 20% of those individuals successfully maintain their weight loss. This situation perpetuates a popular phrase called “yo-yo dieting.” This phenomenon describes individuals trying a particular diet, losing weight, encountering a plateau, and then regaining weight in frustration due to their perception of the diet failing.
A misconception to beginners attempting to lose weight is that the process is linear. Therefore, one can expect that weight loss will occur more rapidly in the early stages. Still, then in the coming weeks, the weight may stay steady or even slightly increased despite maintaining the established calorie deficit. Understanding why this plateau occurs can help individuals remain consistent with their weight loss efforts and continue progressing instead of regressing. Identifying these challenges and considering various strategies to overcome plateaus will ultimately lead to a greater degree of individuals successfully achieving and maintaining their weight loss in the long term.
💡Try making these making these small changes to your routine to break a weight loss plateau!
Sometimes, metabolic rate can simply adapt to a new baseline. Try making small changes to your routine. Making small changes regularly encourages your body to continuously improve and change.
To increase your metabolic rate, try to:
- Increase the number of reps during a workout—if you usually do 10 pushups, try 12 next time
- Take more rest days than usual
- Try a new type of exercise or workout
- Adjust your diet by increasing protein, or upping your water intake
- Increase intake of vitamins & minerals involved in fat metabolism, like magnesium, B vitamins, and L-carnitine.
Almost everyone knows of someone who has benefitted from a detox. Maybe they lost weight, improved their energy, ditched their hormonal issues or improved the symptoms of a chronic disease.
Whether you are looking to lose weight or not, an annual or bi-annual ‘reset’ detox can be beneficial. I always try for twice per year. I ensure that I am eating rich whole foods, lots of colorful herbs and spices and plenty of good quality protein and fat. I will eliminate any sugar that may have slipped in, cut out grains, any dairy, wheat and coffee.. yes coffee… for two to three weeks. During this time, I will also follow a program of detox juices and teas.
Now, this is not a cure-all for weight loss! Please do not think that everyone who employs this tactic will see the fat melting off of their bodies. But for many people who are plateauing in their weight loss journey, a detoxification can be a helpful strategy.
Hitting a weight loss plateau could be a sign to re-evaluate important body functions, like your hormones, gut function, or sleep quality. When you improve these through diet and lifestyle, you’ll experience better overall health and a continued improvement in body composition. and fiber.
Repair Your Gut
Your gut is responsible for breaking down and absorbing vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from your diet. If your gut is in a state of dysbiosis or you have underlying infections, your healthy diet may not be working as hard for you as it could be. Dysbiosis typically occurs when the bacteria in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract — which includes your stomach and intestines — become unbalanced
Candida, or yeast overgrowth, can cause weight gain by driving food cravings, inflammation, and insulin resistance. Dysbiosis causes bloating and nutrient deficiencies, resulting in metabolic dysfunction.
Some pre- and probiotics may help prevent weight gain, and that people who are overweight or obese tend to have less diversity in their microbiome than those at a healthier weight.
11 Signs You Have An Unhealthy Gut
Here are a few tell tale signs that your gut is in need of some tender loving care from you. On the surface these may not seem like they need urgent attention, but if left uncared for over a period of time, they can lead to larger complications. Your gut is an area to always pay attention to, and take active steps to providing extra nutrients and care.
- Bloating
- Food Sensitivities
- Thyroid Conditions
- Fatigue
- Joint Pain
- Headaches
- Skin Issues
- Digestive Problems
- Leaky Gut
- Weight Changes
- Food Cravings
Inflammation
Recent studies have shown that although exercise and diet management are efficient weight loss tools, they will not be effective if your body is fighting inflammation. Inflammation knocks the body out of balance and makes losing weight more difficult. Obesity drives inflammation and inflammation makes it harder to lose weight!
Inflammation is our body’s defense mechanism. It is uncertain how obesity triggers inflammation. However, it appears the process of inflammation is an immune response. There is an association between increased weight gain and higher inflammation. More weight may mean more inflammation. And weight loss also tends to mean less inflammation.
Chronic inflammation also makes people more susceptible to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease and can make it easier to gain weight and more challenging to lose it. Therefore cultivating a healthy lifestyle is key to minimising inflammation and the chances of obesity.
Balance Hormones
Hormones play an essential role in controlling the rate of your metabolism and fat storage. If you are experiencing symptoms like fatigue, low libido, or chronic inflammation in addition to a weight loss plateau, it could be due to a hormone imbalance.
To ensure optimal hormonal health, consider consulting with a specialist and undergoing routine hormone tests, such as:
- Thyroid panel
- Sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen, progesterone)
- HbA1c & blood glucose
- Cortisol
- DHEA
The body can also develop a resistance to hormones that control appetite, such as leptin. If you’re leptin resistant you may feel hungry even though you just ate, and have trouble controlling cravings.
The body has its own mechanisms for protecting itself from toxins, so it creates fat cells to surround the toxins, providing a shield between them and the body, doing their job to protect us. Unfortunately, if we diet without first removing the toxins, then the fat in the cells are burnt away as we lose weight but leaves the toxins in our system.

This is one reason why we can sometimes feel weak or sick if we lose a lot of weight quickly. Since we have no protection against the toxins, our body responds by creating more fat in our cells to combat the remaining toxins. We can suffer from yo-yo dieting if we do not remove the toxins first, and so yo-yo dieting puts your body under even more stress which leaves us deflated and unwell.
If we perform a natural detox first, then when the fat in the cells are removed as part of normal weight loss, there are very few toxins remaining that we need to be protected from. So the body doesn’t need to create new fat which leads to more energy and more healthy muscle being built. If you have excess weight, you’re likely experiencing some level of inflammation, which makes the body irritated and stressed. In a situation like this, the body’s primary focus is survival and healing, not weight loss. So, to lose weight, it’s key to reduce inflammation and other potential irritants to help the body get back to more healthy operating conditions.
Maintaining weight loss can be challenging, but the right tools can help you adapt your routine to reach your long-term goals.

Healthy Detox and Cleansing Tips
* Limit Alcohol: Drinking too much alcohol reduces your liver’s ability to carry out its normal functions, such as detoxifying.
* Focus On Sleep: Adequate sleep allows your brain to reorganize, recharge, and eliminate toxins that accumulate throughout the day.
* Drink More Water: In addition to its many roles in your body, water allows your body’s detoxification system to remove waste products from your blood.
* Reduce Your Intake of Sugar and Processed Foods: Excess junk or fast food consumption is linked to chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes. These conditions can cause harm to organs important to detoxifying, such as your liver and kidneys.
* Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Consuming a diet rich in antioxidants helps your body reduce damage caused by free radicals and may lower your risk of diseases that can impact detoxification.
* Eat Foods High in Prebiotics: Eating a diet rich in prebiotics keeps your digestive system healthy, which is important for proper detoxification and immune health.
* Decrease Your Salt Intake: Consuming too much salt can increase water retention. You can eliminate excess water — and waste — by increasing your intake of water and potassium-rich foods.
* Stay Active: Regular physical activity lowers inflammation and allows your body’s detoxification system to work properly.

Consume:
* Herbs and spices: mint, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, turmeric.
* Fruits: watermelon, cucumber, lime, grapefruit, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries.
* Vegetables: cruciferous (watercress, broccoli), garlic, onion, leek, carrot, celery, parsley, fennel, tomato.
* Nutraceuticals from Fuxion®’s Core System (1 product from Cleansing & Detox line, Protein Active, and 1 product from Energy & Revitalization line)
Avoid:
Conventional dairy products, sugars (desserts), processed foods (fried foods, high-fat foods, dressings, etc.), alcohol, artificial colors, gluten (wheat, oats, rye, barley).
